Dynamic Equilibrium

Introduction

The ability to maintain balance is a key factor in sports such as skiing and windsurfing.

Being a motor skill, balance keeps the equilibrium position of resisting the opposing forces, it becomes necessary in all aspects of development and progress in the techniques of skiing and windsurfing.

Let’s look at the development of such skills in children. It is interesting because it is often not given enough attention. Children may not like balancing exercise while you may try to please them. Nonetheless, the most favorable age to develop balance is 9-12, whereas the age of 10-11 is particularly sensitive. For boys, the particularly sensitive age is 11-12 and for girls 10-11. Special attention should be given to this when choosing a sport that we would like our children to get actively involved in and which they show most interest and talent for.

For most sports, this period is critical and in no way should it be left out when developing motor skills and balance. In order to be actively involved in sports, training of balance and coordination in this period cannot in any way be compensated at some other point in life and it is very difficult to achieve significant results without this training during the specific period of development.

For this reason, it is very important to teach children all these aspects (dynamic balance, coordination, proprioception, balance) even in case they decide to stop training and doing sports after this period. Children will feel the usefulness of this training in different periods of their life and activities that lay ahead of them, which may be ski and windsurfing schools.
